The Hellenism of Egypt reverently honours the fallen of the heroic Battle of El Alamein on the 79th anniversary of the event, which marked the beginning of the end of the Italo-German Axis and the Second World War.

At the Monument of the Greek Fallen of the Egyptian city, which from year to year turns into a tourist metropolis, the whole parish of Nile Country along with the diplomatic and consular authorities were present, paying tribute to those who fought and fell defending faith and the Homeland, as chanted in the moving trisagion officiated by the Patriarchal Commissioner of Alexandria, Metropolitan of Naukratida Mr. Narcissus.

Egypt was also present, laying a wreath together with all the representatives of Hellenism together with Cyprus, whose citizens also played a decisive role in the Battle of El Alamein. Ambassador Mr. Homer Mavromatis represented the Republic of Cyprus. The speech of the Greek Ambassador to Egypt, Mr. Nikos Garilidis, who has lived as an Egyptian since he was very young, was also moving, with the Greek and Egyptian National Anthems echoing, showing the common direction of these two states, which were once rivals but allies today.

In his statements, the Greek Ambassador referred, among other things, to the tripartite cooperation between Greece, Cyprus and Egypt for security and peace in the region.
