The US Department of Defence has awarded a $49.9 million contract modification to Greek company Sielman SA to provide diagnostic and repair services for the HAWK anti-aircraft system.

According to a relevant announcement, the work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with project completion scheduled for May 13, 2029.

The HAWK is in service in many countries including Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Romania, Turkey, Greece, and Ukraine.

The HAWK system is the predecessor of Raytheon Technologies’ PATRIOT air defence system. Greece has a total of 42 systems.

In 2006, their modernization to the Phase 3 level was completed, almost doubling the operational range from 25 km to 42 km and an altitude of 45,000 feet against helicopters, drones, or even tactical ballistic missiles, thanks to the capability of cooperation with the PATRIOT system’s radar.

Also, the said anti-aircraft system has a response time of 10-16 seconds and a firing rate of one missile per 5 seconds with high rates of effectiveness from 90% to 95%.

Sielman SA, based in Volos, was founded in 1982 and specializes in the design, manufacture of military spare parts and the maintenance of military equipment, while in the past it has undertaken contracts for HAWK anti-aircraft systems.
