Kyiv will allocate approximately €5.2 million to a new anti-drone programme aimed at defending the Ukrainian capital’s skies from Russian drone attacks, municipal authorities announced on Friday.

Kiev is increasing spending by 15.5 billion hryvnias (367 million euros) to bolster Ukraine’s Armed Forces with drones, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal.
With the allocated funds, 300,000 drones will be delivered this year to the country’s Security and Defence Forces, he told during a cabinet meeting.
Shmyhal said that until recently the budget provided for 43.3 billion hryvnias for the purchase of drones.

Ukraine has stepped up efforts to develop and produce various types of drones, more than two years since the start of the Russian invasion. In recent weeks, Ukrainian Forces have frequently launched strikes on Russian territory, far from the border.
A woman was killed yesterday in a village in Russia’s Kursk region due to a Ukrainian drone strike, according to regional governor Roman Starovoit. The Russian Defence Ministry had earlier announced that three drones were intercepted in the Kursk and Belgorod regions.
