The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that it condemns the insult of the Greek flag by Turkish citizens in Kastellorizo.
In a statement, the Ministry noted that such unacceptable actions are intended to boost the prospects of escalating the tension between the two countries.
“We expect the Turkish authorities to immediately condemn and investigate the incident, so that those responsible can be brought to justice,” the Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In the meantime, within a few hours of the incident, the Greek flag was cleaned and repainted in blue and white. According to Turkish media, a group of Turkish nationalists seems to be behind the act of vandalism in Kastellorizo.
According to the report of the Turkish network Karar TV, which also published drone footage after the sabotage, the perpetrators threw red paint on the Greek flag.
The incident is being investigated by the police and the port authority.
