If the equipment in Kastelorizo exceeds what the agreements provide for, then Greece will be the one to lose, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, adding, however, that Turkey is ready to sit at the negotiating table.
In a press conference with his Algerian counterpart, the Turkish Foreign Minister stated that “these islands cannot be equipped. Greece, after the press reports, stated that a change of guard took place. If there is no such heavy weaponry, the forces may exist (in Kastelorizo) for security reasons. But there is a limit to this. But if such weaponry goes beyond that, then Greece will be the one to lose,” said the Turkish Minister.
Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated that “with the unconditional support of the EU, Greece is taking provocative steps against international law. We do not claim anyone’s rights, nor do we allow the violation of our rights. Such steps will hurt Greece. By inciting others or exploiting others, do not take negative steps against Turkey. We are in favor of sitting at the table, negotiating with everyone and finding a solution for exploitation and equitable sharing in the eastern Mediterranean,” he said.
The Turkish Foreign Minister accused Greece of trying to provoke Turkey. “The result will be dangerous. Greece will suffer from this,” Çavuşoğlu claimed.
