On Friday, January 21, 2022, a naval cooperation exercise (PASSEX) was held in the sea area south of Larnaca, under the name “CYP / FRA-01/2022”, in the context of the presence of the French Navy Frigate in the area.

The exercise, provided in the Bilateral Defence Cooperation Program between the two countries, was planned by the Naval Command of the General Staff of the National Guard, in collaboration with the French Navy, and included objects of naval interest. Furthermore, the Offshore Patrol Vessel “IOANNIDIS” and the French frigate “PROVENCE” participated in it.

In particular, the scenario of the exercise included Tactical Movements and Progressive Maneuvers, execution of surface fire by cannons of ships as well as a drill of consensual naval boarding during which the boarding team of FS PROVENCE boarded OPV IOANNIDIS. The exercise was completed with a greeting ceremony between the 2 Ships.

The exercise, which is part of the international cooperation developed by the National Guard with the Armed Forces of friends and allied countries, is considered particularly beneficial as it provides the opportunity for the Navy personnel to jointly train with French Navy Units, thus promoting interoperability and highlighting the excellent relations between the Armed Forces of the two countries.
