The Minister of National Defence, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, visited the NAVAL GROUP shipyards together with his French counterpart Florence Parly. The said shipyards will build the FDI HN “Belh@rra” frigates to be acquired by the Hellenic Navy.

In his statement, the Greek National Defence Minister stressed the importance of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, upgraded by the agreement of the leaders of the two countries, and provides, among other things, mutual assistance to defend sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. Regarding the frigate program, he stressed that the next stages provided in Greek legislation will follow so that the agreements are signed as soon as possible.

The Minister made a remarkable statement that he wishes and encourages those in charge to seek cooperation with companies of the Greek Defence Industry within the frigate program, as provided by the Strategic Partnership Agreement.

Referring to the capabilities of the new frigates, he said that the advanced features of “Belharra” frigates and in particular the long-range anti-aircraft defence, anti-submarine warfare performance and the enhanced surface warfare capability, enable the execution of multiple missions in naval warfare.

When asked about the corvette program, the Minister of Defence answered that the decisions will be made soon, while the officers of the Hellenic Navy will have the final word.
