From Monday, November 28 to Friday, December 02, 2022, the “CYBER COALITION 2022” exercise, NATO’s most important cyber defence exercise, was held at the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS).

“CYBER COALITION 2022” is led by NATO’s Cooperative Cyber Defence Center of Excellence (CCDCoE) in Tallinn, Estonia.

From the Greek side, it is coordinated and monitored by the Directorate of Cyber Defence of the HNDGS and it was attended by personnel from both the Joint Cyber Defence Operations Center of the HNDGS and the corresponding Directorates of the General Staffs.

According to the announcement of the HNDGS, “CYBER COALITION 2022” has been held every year since 2008. This year, the exercise took place with the participation of approximately 1000 trainees from NATO member-states and partners as well as participants from industry and academia.

The exercise was conducted remotely via a connection with a CCDCoE virtual exercise field and was aimed at training personnel in cyberattacks at the technical and operational level as well as strengthening the capabilities of NATO and its allies in the defence of network infrastructures. Furthermore, deepening the participants’ cooperation in cyberspace was among the aims of the said exercise.

During the exercise, scenarios related to countering cyberattacks on network and information infrastructures that support NATO operations as well as against critical energy production infrastructures took place, while legal issues related to the view of cyberattacks as armed attacks were also discussed.
