A decisive step for the Greek Defence Industry was taken last week with the signing of the Articles of Association of the Defence Industry…
Following the particularly important attendance of Hellenic Industrial Property Ownership companies at the AUSA exhibition in Washington, Greece attends for the first time the world’s largest Naval & Maritime Defence Exhibition EURONAVAL 2022 with a National Pavilion. The said exhibition will be held on October 18-21 in Paris.
The HELLENIC PAVILLION, in which 12 companies participate, is organized by the Hellenic Manufacturers of Defence Material (SEKPY) under the auspices of the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy.
This national effort is supported by the General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) of the Ministry of National Defence, ENTERPRISE GREECE, the Greek-French Chamber, and HEMEXPO. The opening of the Hellenic pavilion will take place on Tuesday afternoon, October 18, by the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Nikolaos Hardalias, in the presence of the Chief of the Hellenic Navy, Stylianos Petrakis, the Greek Ambassador to France, Mr. D. Zevelakis, the Executive Board member of Enterprise Greece, Mrs. Betty Alexandropoulos, and the General Director of GDDIA, Mr. A. Alexopoulos. The corresponding French officials will also attend on behalf of the French side.

On the same day, more than 20 agreements between Greek and French companies will be signed, while on Wednesday, October 19 at 10 a.m. a Forum will be held on the Greek-French naval cooperation organized by SEKPY and the corresponding French association GICAN with the support of the Hellenic-French Chamber.
According to SEKPY’s announcement, the Greek companies that will participate in Euronaval 2022 are: 8 BELLS RESEARCH, AKMON, ΑRPEDON, EMMIS, FARAD, FEAC ENGINEERING, MEVACO, MILTECH, ROTA, SCYTALIS, SSMART, and STELMA.
The organization of the Hellenic pavilion at EURONAVAL by SEKPY aims to highlight and promote the Hellenic Defence Industry at a particularly important moment in time, when the large armaments program of the Belharra frigates is already being implemented, along with additional programs aiming to strengthen the Hellenic Navy such as the modernization of MEKO frigates, the supply of new corvettes, etc.
The Greek companies and organizations that will participate in the exhibition will have the opportunity to address an international audience in the Naval Defence Sector, highlight their products and capabilities, and look for new partnerships and opportunities to develop their activities.
It is a continuation of SEKPY’s effort in recent years to support Greek companies in the sector so that extroversion becomes an asset and a legacy for their further development.
A tangible result consists of both the recent agreements signed between French and Greek companies as well as the more than 20 new agreements related to the frigate program that will be signed during the exhibition.
The above, together with the recent signing of Letters of Intent (LoI) between the Italian manufacturers of Italian Corvettes and Greek defence companies are clear proof of the capabilities of the domestic defence industry, but above all of the impact of the policy of demanding and achieving industrial returns from the Ministry of National Defence / GDDIA.
The creation of a government body exclusively responsible for Defence Industry issues as well as the requirement for Industrial Refunds of at least 30% of the value of armament programs are issues of national importance that must be resolved.
