The participation of MILTECH HELLAS in the major defence exhibition EDEX 2023, enhances the footprint of the Greek defence industry extroversion.

The company participated in the sole exhibition on the African continent with a multitude of thermal imaging technological solutions as well as avionic modules.

Starting with our presentation of products, the company introduced the MLT-HDD-55L, a 5×5-inch, high-resolution Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD). This aircraft cockpit display is a functional replacement for the 5-inch CRT Head Down Display of the Dassault Mirage 2000 EG /BG.

According to the company, the HDD-55L unit provides high-resolution imagery generated by the aircraft, including symbology, monochrome, and color video as well as high brightness and excellent visibility in high ambient light conditions during the day.

As a company executive pointed out, the presence of the module in question at the exhibition is also symbolic, since the system is found in the cockpits of the Egyptian Mirage fleet. In addition, the same executive emphasized that MILTECH HELLAS manufactures in collaboration with Dassault the corresponding module for the Rafale fighter jets, applying “new techniques” to the existing structure.

The company also introduced the MLT-SUR-100RTM electro-optical system as a sensor to optimize situational awareness.

The MLT-SUR-RTM is a versatile, portable thermal surveillance system with an uncooled, high-definition thermal shutter sensor for optimal observation and effective detection. With an optional laser range finder of up to 30 km, the MLT-SUR-RTM is ideal for maritime border security and maritime surveillance.

At this point, it should be noted that the system has been incorporated into the new, modern Special Operations Crafts for the purposes of the AGENOR program.

Apart from this, MILTECH exhibited the MLT-SUR-RT fixed structure electro-optical system.

The said system is a thermal surveillance device with an uncooled high-definition thermal sensor for optimal observation and effective detection. With an optional laser rangefinder up to 30 km, the MLT-SUR-RT is ideal for perimeter security and ground surveillance.

Beyond these, at the booth of MILTECH HELLAS, we had the opportunity to see the MLT-IRB-75A monocular thermal imaging system.

MLT-IRB-75A is a lightweight handheld thermal imaging system, suitable for use during both day and night as well as in adverse conditions such as dust, fog, rain, or smoke.

According to the company, the system meets the most demanding operational requirements for situational awareness and target acquisition, while there is the option of integrating a laser rangefinder.

In fact, it should be mentioned that such systems have been delivered as a donation by the company to the Hellenic Police and the Hellenic Coast Guard to strengthen border surveillance and prevent illegal migratory flows in Evros.

Moving on to the rest of the systems displayed, we noticed the MLT-DTP-LEO thermal periscope.

MLT-DTP-LEO is a thermal imaging periscope for installation on armored vehicles for routine day and night operations in adverse weather conditions such as dust, fog, rain or smoke.

The periscope incorporates a state-of-the-art infrared sensor Gen. III that is able to detect heat-emitting bodies at extremely long distances. At the same time, it incorporates a day camera that can be used under normal weather conditions.

According to the company, the system in question is a Form-Fit replacement of the existing PERI D53 ZUB. The same unit can be installed without any modification on LEO 1A5 & LEO 2A4 tanks, while it is possible to see it on Greek LEO 1A5 & LEO 2A4 in the near future.

Next to MLT-DTP-LEO was the MLT-DTP-640 thermal periscope.

The MLT-DTP-640 is a thermal imaging periscope for vehicles sharing the same concept as the MLT-DTP-LEO. Regarding the said system, it should be mentioned that MILTECH HELLAS has won a public tender to upgrade the equipment of the M109 self-propelled howitzers used by the Hellenic Army.

The upgrade, among other things, includes advanced periscopes with the MLT-DTP-640 periscope dominating the competition, providing new agility and threat management capabilities to the M109 driver. The thermal camera consists of a third-generation uncooled sensor, which is a product of MILTECH.

The said periscope is also waterproof and moisture- as well as dust-resistant (IP67 certification). It is also equipped with the ROI (Region-Of-Interest) feature, which allows the driver to focus on the target of his choice, even in environments with many different heat sources.

The periscope can operate in a wide range of temperatures (-40°C to +60°C) and has a high-definition display with the ability to instantly switch between thermal and day modes. The MLT-DTP-640 also provides video recording functionality, SD card storage, and the additional ability to connect multiple cameras for full 360-degree peripheral vision.

Finally, at the company’s booth, we saw the medium- and long-range rifle thermal imaging system called MLT-IRS-75LR.

This system features a third-generation uncooled sensor with a 10-hour battery life as well as a laser rangefinder.
