The night of Holy Saturday in Limassol was eventful, as the Police and Fire Service faced a massive attack by a group of youths.

Around 10:30 in the evening, the Police received calls regarding young people on Ypsonas-Erimi street, who were causing problems by throwing Molotov cocktails and firecrackers at vehicles.

Members of Anti-riot forces and the Mobile Immediate Action Unit faced an organized attack by about 100 people with firecrackers, Molotov cocktails, direct fireworks and stones, using chemicals for reaction.

In this context, one police vehicle was completely destroyed by fire, while four were damaged. Two bottles of flammable material were also found near the burnt vehicle and were collected as evidence. The perpetrators, taking advantage of the darkness, fled.

On the same day, around 4:10 in the afternoon, the Police stopped a car near the church of Agia Marina where they found a large quantity of firecrackers: 1,807 in total.

The driver, 18, was arrested, charged, and released to appear before the Court, according to Phileleftheros. The Cyprus Police Association condemns the attack and expresses its support to their colleagues.
