
The European Airpol Network conducted First Responder training at the American CYCLOPS Training Center in Larnaca.
According to the Cyprus Police, the training aimed at the better cooperation between First Responder services at airports so as to counter any terrorist attack or various other illegal actions.
The training was attended by members of the Cyprus Police and other services, including the Ambulance Service.

As stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the “Cyprus Center for Land, Open-seas and Port Security” (CYCLOPS) is a training center owned by the Republic of Cyprus, based in Larnaca. The project was implemented in close cooperation with the government of the United States of America, based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 12, 2020 between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States of America.
The financing for the construction and equipment of the CYCLOPS Training Center was undertaken by the Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) program of the US State Department, while the Republic of Cyprus provided the land exploited for its construction. With the completion of the construction works on February 28, 2022, the Center came under the ownership of the Republic of Cyprus through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is also responsible for its operation. CYCLOPS is based in Larnaca and was inaugurated on April 6, 2022.
The CYCLOPS training center hosts various training activities in the field of security with the participation of international bodies, including the UNODC office for combating crime at sea and AIRPOL, which aims to strengthen overall security at EU airports and in the civil aviation sector.
