Cypriot Underwater Demolition Team trains with US Navy SEALS

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Defence, on September 10, a Special Operations Team of the Underwater Demolition Unit will conduct an exercise with a US Naval Special Warfare (SEALS) Unit. 

According to the announcement of the Ministry, the scenario of the exercise focuses on boarding and recapture of a ship and will be held on the National Guard’s General Support Ship “ALASIA” that is moored in the port of Limassol.

During the exercise, technical procedures of boarding and capturing the vital areas of the ship will be applied along with control, personnel management and threat neutralisation.

In an official post, the US Special Operations Command in Europe states that the exercise aims to build cooperation with NATO allies and partners by increasing readiness in the face of threats to Europe’s stability.

This joint training with special operation units of other countries and especially with the US Navy SEALS contributes to the promotion of the high level and strengthening of the operational capabilities of the National Guard’s Underwater Demolition Unit.
