“TRIO” SAM system | The proposal by Belarus for countering UAVs
The Belarusian “Belarus Belspetsvneshtekhnika-New Technologies” [BSVT-NT] will soon initiate the production of “Trio” surface-to-air missile (SAM) system which is designed primarily to counter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The system is based on the ASILAK light armored vehicle. The first of the two vehicles is the missile launcher featuring the Alliance Combat Management Systems (BMS) and the Strizh-M3 optoelectronic system. The launcher is capable of firing two types of guided missiles: the R-60NT short-range air-to-air missile (range of 6 km) and the 9M37M surface-to-air missile, which has a range of up to 5 km. The latter is also used in the 9K35 Strela-10 SAM system (SA-13 “Gopher” by NATO).
The second vehicle is the command and control unit, fitted with a weather station, acoustic sensors, the “Sokol” (Falcon) optical all-round view and detection system and the Alliance BMS. The “Trio” system is equipped with an onboard navigation and orientation system, data reception and transmission communication and control systems integrated into the Alliance automated control system.
In order to improve the protection of the crew, the family of Asilak vehicles has a double anti-mine bottom and a general armor plating corresponding to the STANAG 2 protection level.
The system is expected to be showcased at the MILEX 2021 defence exhibition in Minsk, from June 23 to 26, 2021.
