National Security Adviser of Greek Prime Minister resigns
The Greek National Security Adviser to the Greek Prime Minister, Rear Admiral Alexandros Diakopoulos, submitted his resignation today, Wednesday, August 19, following his statements on the Internet yesterday.
“My statement yesterday caused confusion and created a problem for the Prime Minister and the Government, which was by no means my intention. I have served my country for decades and I have always learned to take on my responsibilities. Therefore, I submit my resignation from the position of National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister,” Mr. Diakopoulos noted in a statement.
“I will continue to help the country and the government in any way I can, as I have done so far,” he concluded.
The Greek Prime Minister accepted the resignation of Mr. Diakopoulos, thanking him for his services.
It is recalled that in an appearance on the television channel Open on Tuesday, August 17, 2020, Rear Admiral E.A. Diakopoulos, when asked about the activity of the Turkish seismograph, admitted that Oruc Reis has carried out research in a Greek continental shelf.
“It has conducted research, let’s not be fooled, but the issue is a bit more complicated.”

His statement had provoked strong reactions in government circles, while close associates of the prime minister were explaining, according to information, that Mr. Diakopoulos’ opinion causes confusion, while the same government sources stressed categorically that Oruc Reis does not conduct seismic surveys in the area.
