The International Defence and Security Conference “BATTLEFIELD ReDEFiNED 2024” was successfully concluded on Friday, 13, December 2024.
The conference was organised by the Cyprus Association of Research and Innovation Enterprises (CARIE), in collaboration with C.D. Multimedia Services and the leading Cypriot companies in the Defence and Security sector. It event took place 12 and 13 at the Pavilion Hall in Nicosia, between 12-13 of December and was under the auspices of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus.
The attendance exceeded 400 participants including vip guests like H.E. the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, the Minister of Defence Mr. Vasilis Palmas, Ambassadors from France, Israel, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Serbia, the Chief of the National Guard, Directors-General of ministries, the President and Secretary-General of the CCCI, the Chief Scientist of the Republic of Cyprus, and Defence Attachés from various countries.
The event was attended also by a significant number of personnel from the Armed Forces, the Cyprus Police, the Fire Service, executives from major companies, organisations and academics.
The topics on which this year’s conference focused included, among others, the rise of the Cyprus Defence Industry, the use of dual-use technologies in the modern battlefield, the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) in modern conflicts, and the impact of climate change on defence issues while tactical conclusions from recent conflicts were discussed.
The audience had the opportunity also to visit the static exhibition of weapon systems from domestic and foreign companies including unmanned aircraft and unmanned surface vessels, electronic warfare systems, artificial intelligence systems, personal gear, anti-tank systems, anti-drone systems and many more.
The outdoor exhibition area, included a specialised National Guard EOD vehicle, a Search and Rescue Coordination Centre vehicle, a Fire Fighting truck, command and control vehicles with drones and other equipment.
At the opening of the conference, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, unveiled the government’s upcoming initiatives to strengthen the defence industry. During his visit to BATTLEFIELD ReDEFiNED 2024, he toured all the company stands participating in the exhibition.
During the conference, agreements and memoranda of cooperation were also signed. Specifically, the Cypriot Association of Research and Innovation Enterprises (CARIE) and the Association of Greek Defence Equipment Manufacturers (SEKPY) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), thus consolidating the cooperation of the defence industries of Greece and Cyprus.
Furthermore, C.D Multimedia Services signed a memorandum of cooperation with Strategy International to further deepen their partnership.
The companies participating in the conference delivered specialised presentations on their projects and systems under development. They also had the opportunity to exchange views and network, paving the way for potential future collaborations.
In addition, during the specialised panels on defence and security topics, significant conclusions were drawn, and the audience had the opportunity to pose questions to the speakers, thus delving deeper into the analysis of the thematic areas.
