The Minister of Defence, Vassilis Palmas, during his visit to Jordan, met with the Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yousef Ahmad Al Hunaity.
During the meeting, the excellent relations between Cyprus and Jordan and the historical ties connecting the two nations were reaffirmed, as well as the excellent cooperation within the trilateral mechanism of the two countries with Greece in the fields of defence and security.

Discussions focused on international developments, the security situation in the wider region of the eastern Mediterranean, the security situation in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, and the consequences of the ongoing conflict in Israel. Mr. Palmas emphasised the role played by the Republic of Cyprus, its contribution to the efforts for evacuating civilians, and referred to the initiative for creating a maritime corridor to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Regarding the Cyprus issue, he informed about the efforts undertaken by the government of the Republic of Cyprus to restart the talks to restart negotiations for a solution, as well as the challenges posed by the occupying Turkey with its ongoing violations in the buffer zone.
The Chief of the Armed Forces of Jordan provided a detailed briefing on the challenges facing his country due to the ongoing conflict in Israel and the new developments unfolding in Lebanon and Syria.
In the context of the meeting, a review of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fields of defence and security was conducted, and a Defence Cooperation Agreement was signed.
During his stay in Amman, Mr. Palmas also met with His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, to whom he expressed Cyprus’ commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation on defence and security issues..
