On Tuesday and Wednesday, February 1-2, 2022, the Chief of the Saudi Armed Forces, Air Chief Marshal Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, accompanied by a military delegation, paid an official visit to Cyprus at the invitation of the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Democritus Zervakis. 

Air Chief Marshal Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili was welcomed at the National Guard General Staff (GEEF) and then had a meeting with the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Democritus Zervakis. He was then briefed on the mission and operational capabilities of the National Guard as well as the challenges it faces, followed by extended contacts with the delegations of the Military Staffs of the two countries. Furthermore, he had a meeting with the Minister of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petridis.

During the personal meeting of the two Leaders, the current developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf as well as issues related to security and stability in the wider region were discussed. In addition, the common challenges faced by the two countries were addressed, while potential ways of cooperation between their Armed Forces were explored.

Members of the Saudi delegation visited the Joint Rescue Coordination Center where they were briefed on its mission and capabilities.

The Chief of Staff of the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces was also received by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, in the presence of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the National Guard.

The visit of the Chief of the Saudi General Staff to Cyprus is part of the wide network of international cooperation developed by the National Guard with the respective Armed Forces of friendly and allied countries, strengthening the dialogue for security and stability in the region.
