Israel reportedly hit a vehicle carrying United Nations observers outside the Lebanese border town of Rmeis yesterday. The UN observers have been wounded.

Israeli military spokesman, Avichai Andrai, denied that Israeli Forces hit the vehicle of UNIFIL, the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon.

In particular, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) also issued a statement reporting that, contrary to information, they did not hit a UNIFIL vehicle yesterday morning in the Rmeis area.

Further, in a statement the UN Secretary-General condemned the explosion, which hit a patrol of the Observer Group Lebanon (OGL), injuring three OGL military technical observers of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) and a Lebanese interpreter.

The same announcement states that an investigation by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is underway.

The situation along the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel since October 8 last year, with daily exchanges of fire between Lebanon-based non-state armed groups and the Israel Defence Forces, remains a matter of grave concern.

These repeated violations of the cessation of hostilities violate Security Council resolution 1701 (2006). Israel has been exchanging fire with the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon for nearly six months, alongside the war in Gaza.
