About 1,600 people fled their homes from 14 different settlements in the Ryazan area on Wednesday 07/09 after a fire broke out in an ammunition depot near the village of Zheltukhino.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM) reported that the fire was sparked by a wildfire in dry grass near the depot. Russia’s Defence Ministry has sent three Mi-8 helicopters to help extinguish the fire, along with 70 soldiers and up to 10 military vehicles.
EMERCOM said in a statement that 100 firefighters and two fire engines were operating in the area. There have been no reports of injuries so far.
As you will see in the videos below, the horrific explosions are awe-inspiring, but also critical of the security measures that the Russian army should have taken.
