Last week, the OSCE Cypriot Delegation travelled to Serbia, while a group of inspectors of the said organisation conducted an inspection in Cyprus.

Specifically, according to the National Guard General Staff (GEEF), the OSCE Cypriot Delegation’s visit to the Republic of Serbia took place from December 6-9, 2021. The OSCE inspection team conducted an inspection in the territory of the Republic of Serbia, in the framework of the Confidence and Security Building Measures provided by the Vienna Text (2011).

At the same time, in the framework of the above, an OSCE inspection team visited the territory of the Republic of Cyprus from December 7-10, 2021.

The team, consisting of officers from Belgium, France and the Netherlands, visited Formations and facilities of the National Guard, where it was informed about the mission, work and capabilities of the Formations, while it had the opportunity to ascertain the level of personnel training. At the same time, during the visit, the team inspected the observance of the obligations of the National Guard, in accordance with the Vienna Text.

The inspection revealed the excellent cooperation with OSCE as well as the compliance of the Republic of Cyprus, as a Member-State, with all the obligations, which, among other things, concern the timely provision of information and active participation in military activities, seminars and conferences. In particular, the National Guard’s observance with all the provisions related to the inspections requirements and provided for in the Vienna Text was confirmed once again.

In addition, during its stay in Cyprus, the team visited the Military Cemetery at the Tomb of Makedonitissa where it laid a wreath and the “SIAKOLA” Observatory on Ledras Street, where it was informed about the current situation.
