The die is cast for the frigates of the Hellenic Navy. After months of negotiations and evaluations, the Greek Ministry of Defence has decided to purchase the Belharra French frigates, according to exclusive information of OPEN TV.

According to the OPEN TV report, which cites well-informed sources in the Ministry of National Defence, the Navy decided to buy the Belharra French frigates, on the grounds that they meet the conditions the Ministry had set.

According to the program, Greece will acquire 2 upgraded La Fayette frigates as an intermediate solution, until the construction of the four Belharra frigates is completed.

The cost of the whole armaments program, which also includes the upgrading of the MEKO frigates, amounts to 5 billion euros.

According to what was broadcast, out of the four ships that the Hellenic Navy is expected to acquire, two will be built in Greece, either at the Skaramaga or the Elefsina shipyards, which reveals Greece’s know-how in the field.

If the information transmitted by OPEN TV is correct, the acquisition of the Belharra frigates will be the largest armaments program in the history of the Armed Forces.

At the moment, there is no official information, which confirms the OPEN TV report, however everything will be finally clarified in the coming months.
