Nikos Dendias | “Expansion of territorial waters in eastern Crete”
“The expansion of territorial waters in Crete will also affect the eastern part of the island,” said Nikos Dendias. Speaking during the parliamentary debate on the bill to expand the coastal zone in the Ionian Sea, the Greek Foreign Minister stressed that the expansion of territorial waters throughout Crete is one of the next moves in Greek foreign policy.
At the same time, responding to the objections of the opposition, Nikos Dendias denied that there is a disagreement between him and the Greek Prime Minister. “There is no disagreement or dispute in strategy. I understand the interest for this to appear as a discrepancy, but the Prime Minister – and every Prime Minister – would never negotiate our territorial waters because it is a matter of sovereignty. The country, the current Government and I myself cannot pursue a different policy in foreign policy issues than the one set by the Prime Minister. It will be catastrophic for the country. Such a thing is invalid, but it is not understood,” he clarified.
