JRCC | Procurement of an Aerostar TUAS – VIDEO

The Joint Rescue and Coordination Center (JRCC) has acquired its own Aerostar Tactical Unmanned System (TUAS), following the National Guard which already operates this system.

The agreement for the procurement of 1 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and related equipment for the Search and Rescue purposes of the Republic of Cyprus was signed on December 2, 2021. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Director General of Transport, Communications and Works Mr. Stavros Michael, the Head of the European Funds Unit of the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Konstantinos Kyprianou, and the JRCC with the Israeli company Aeronautics LTD. The procurement of the above system, according to the announcement of JRCC, is co-financed by the EU Internal Security Fund, whose credits are managed by the European Fund Unit of the Ministry of Interior.

Technical characteristics

The system consists of the ground control station and the UAV. The technical characteristics of the latter are: 

  • Wingspan: 8.7 meters
  • Length: 4.5 meters
  • Fuselage width: 1.2 meters
  • Weight: 230 kg
  • Payload: 50 kg (for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and other ISTAR capabilities)
  • Maximum flight endurance: 12 hours
  • Flight speed: 110 knots
  • Flight range: Up to 250 km
  • Flight altitude: Up to 18000 feet
