On Monday, December 13, 2021, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Constantinos Floros, accompanied by the Commander of the Special Warfare Command, Lieutenant Georgios Tsitsikostas, attended the inauguration ceremony of the new facilities of the ‘Kandiliou” firing range in Nea Peramo, Attica.
The purpose of establishing these new facilities is to increase the operational skills of the units’ personnel that conduct Special Operations, improving, via the use of new training methods, the ways of engaging in different operational scenarios.
The upgraded training capabilities of the “Kandiliou” firing range serve the training needs of the Special Operations Forces as well as the Units of the 3 Armed Forces Branches and other services in the use of individual and group light arms as well as the application of technical and tactical combat tactics. Specifically, short-range firing ranges, urban warfare premises, building complex evacuation, open and closed tunnel complex, and underground evacuation as well as a “Fast Rope” tower have been established.
After the inauguration ceremony, the capabilities of the Special Forces Units were demonstrated in urban warfare missions and in the execution of rapid response combat shots.
The Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff congratulated all those who contributed to the facilities upgrade and pointed out the value of the “Kandiliou” firing range as a modern model training center for the Units’ training aiming to increase their operational capabilities. Furthermore, he stressed that the firing range will also be hosting the training of Special Forces of foreign countries, while he mentioned that the expansion of the provided training capabilities is planned with the establishment of additional facilities in the near future.
Finally, the Chief stressed that the Armed Forces and especially the Special Operations Forces, with daily and painstaking training in facilities such as the ones of the “Kandiliou” firing range, are constantly upgrading their already high level of operational readiness, confirming the deterrent role of the Armed Forces in times of peace and their capability of conducting operations.
