From Monday 10 to Friday 14 July 2023, and in accordance with the planning of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) in terms of international collaborations, a joint exercise was held with the participation of the Hellenic and Italian Armed Forces. The said exercise took place in the context of repaying the participation of Greece in a corresponding activity that was held in Italy from February 6-10, 2023.

In the Joint training, the following personnel and assets participated from the Greek side:

• Special Operations Teams of the Special Paratroopers Unit of the newly-established Special Warfare Command of the HNDGS.
• 1 Transport Aircraft C-27J.
• 1 Helicopter CH-47D and 1 UH-1H.

According to the relevant announcement of the HNDGS, Italy participated with 12 Special Operations Forces personnel of the 4th Reggimento Alpini Paracadutisti.

The Joint Training took place at the facilities of the Special Forces Training Center at the “MAJOR GENERAL ANDREAS KALLINSKI” Military Camp, the “KANDILIOU” Shooting Range in Nea Peramo, Attica as well as at the Drop Zones of Megara, Nea Peramo, Tatoi, Skourta, and Kopaida Boeotia.

During the exercise, close-quarters battle (CQB) and urban warfare training, portable weapons firing as well as military free fall (MFF) training were carried out, which contributed to the promotion of operational readiness, combat capacity, the exchange of know-how and interoperability in the planning and execution of Special Operations between the participants, highlighting the long-standing cooperation of the two Countries in the field of Special Warfare.

It should be noted that the context of the joint training in question was determined during the talks between the Chief of the HNDGS, General Constantinos Floros, and his Counterpart, the Chief of Defence, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, during his recent official visit to Italy in March 2023.
