Greece | Turkish citizen arrested and confesses to arson on Mount Aigaleo

According to the Fire Service, a 33-year-old Turkish man was arrested by the competent authorities as being guilty of intentional, repetitive arson in agricultural and forest lands in the Regional Egaleo, Aspropyrgos Attica.

 

According to the post of the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the arrested person will be brought to justice under the new law.

Specifically, according to an announcement by the Fire Service, a foreigner was arrested yesterday as part of the flagrant crime procedure carried out by Fire Service Officers, of the Arson Crimes Response Directorate (D.A.E.E.), with the assistance of the Hellenic Police, as being guilty of provocation by intentional, repetitive arson in agroforestry areas in the Peripheral Egaleo, Aspropyrgos Attica.

According to information from the Fire Service, the 33-year-old is an asylum seeker. 

In addition, all the security services of the country are investigating the profile of the perpetrator. Finally, as stated in the announcement of the Fire Service, the above-mentioned person is detained and will be brought before the Athens District Attorney.

The fire was brought under control about 20 minutes after it broke out.
