“AEGIS” | The Fire Service acquires three new Leonardo AW139 helicopters

Three additional medium-type Leonardo AW139 helicopters are being acquired by the Fire Service as part of the “Aegis” program of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.  

In particular, today Thursday, at a special event held at the Academy of Athens, the contract for the supply of three medium-type AW139 helicopters, of a total cost of 65.7 million euros, was signed by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and the awarded company – the Italian Leonardo – with the implementing body of the international competition being TAIPED.

The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, said that the AEGIS program is being implemented step by step in the Civil Protection, the Fire Service, and the Greek society.

He himself also talked about an important international competition, which was successfully completed in the context of the effort to face one of the greatest challenges of Greece, the European Union, and the planet, namely the fight against the climate crisis.

The event was attended by the leadership of the Fire Service, the Charge d’Affaires of the Italian Embassy Susanna Schlein, the Managing Director of TAIPED, Panagiotis Stamboulidis, the President of the Athens Academy, Stamatis Krimizis, and the Vice President of the contracting company, Andrea Mirteto.
