A Special Operations Joint Training was co-organized by the National Guard and the German Armed Forces from November 6-10, 2023 within the framework of the Bilateral Defence Cooperation Program.

According to an announcement by the National Guard General Staff (GEEF), the National Guard participated with the Special Operations Unit of the Special Operations Command and the German Armed Forces with personnel and NH 90 transport helicopters, which are hosted in Cyprus.

In particular, the joint training included the execution of individual and group combat firing and urban warfare training. The exercise’s highlight was a small-scale exercise that provided for the execution of direct offensive action by an airborne Special Operations Unit.

The joint training is considered to be particularly beneficial, as it foregrounds the excellent relations between the Armed Forces of Cyprus and Germany, operationally contributing to the improvement of interoperability and the exchange of know-how, elements necessary for the execution of joint missions at all levels.
