According to a publication of the European Commission, through the Recovery Fund (NextGenEU), the European Union (EU) finances the procurement of 2 Erickson S64 heavy cargo helicopters and 11 Air Tractor amphibious firefighting aircraft (Fireboss) for island complexes.
In addition, the EU will similarly finance the procurement of firefighting vehicles for the Fire Service.
The equipment procurement program was prepared by the former Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, N. Hardalia, and now Deputy Minister of Defence and was set in motion directly by the new Minister of Civil Protection, Christos Stylianidis.
