Greek company EODH SA, based in Lakkoma, Chalkidiki participates in the International Defence Exhibition EUROSATORY 2024 (HALL 6 – STAND H380).

EODH, in collaboration with DUMA, exhibits its state-of-the-art Unmanned Combat Ground vehicle “SPECTRE”. The said system, the first expendable armored robot, has been designed for close combat support.

According to the company, the platform provides all-terrain hypermobility, high degree of modularity, multi-payload capability and, most importantly, network-centric combat applications.

The SPECTRE features two separate configurations, 8×8 or 6×6 low pressure tires, while there is an option for installing in-the-field kevlar track system in 10 minutes time which, nonetheless, reduces its amphibious capability.

SPECTRE’s technical characteristics:

  • Propulsion: dual (diesel – electric) / electric as well as amphibious wheel propulsion in water (1,3 tonnes for the 8×8 and 1,1 tonnes for the 6×6 versions)
  • Maximum speed: 40 km/h in hybrid mode / 20 km/h in electric mode
  • Endurance: 8 hours operation in hybrid mode / 20 minutes in electric mode
  • Payload: 600 kg
  • GVW: 1.300 kg (amphibious) / 1.400 kg (on road only)
  • Side slope: 45%
  • Vertical gradient: 50%
  • Range: 37 km for electric version / 120 km for hybrid drive
  • Protection: STANAG 3+ ballistic protection level

Regarding its armament options, the SPECTRE can be equipped with multiple calibres:

  • 7.62mm machine gun / 1.000 rounds
  • 12.7mm machine gun / 400 rounds
  • 40mm AGL / 50 rounds
  • Anti-tank version equipped with 4 ATGMs (3 km or 5 km)
  • Reconnaissance / radio-relay payload equipped with long-range EO / ground radar payload
  • Mine-detection version equipped with mine/IED electronic suite

At EUROSATORY 2024, EODH has unveiled its recent cooperation with the Greek company GEP, which is also located in Thessaloniki and specializes in drone manufacturing.

GEP offers two types of UASs: PANOPTIS QRD-410 and PointZero 1566.

Starting from PointZero 1566, a long-range fixed-wing platform, top-attack kamikaze drone, which is currently being showcased at the exhibition.

PointZero 1566’s specifications:

  • Maximum range: 290 km
  • Endurance: 5 hours
  • Maximum speed: 170 km/hour
  • Payload: 1.8 kg
  • Weight: 3.8 kg
  • Wingspan: 1566 mm
  • Length: 250 mm
  • Width: 290 mm
  • Height: 180 mm
  • Launch: hand-launched
  • Targeting accuracy: < 3 meters
  • Telemetry / control: 80 km

As far as PANOPTIS QRD-410 is concerned, this is a quick reconnaissance drone system, which features a completely modular design and can be tailored for specific operational needs. The drone can be launched in seconds.

PANOPTIS QRD-410’s specifications:

  • Endurance: 25 min (compact battery) / 35 min (extended battery)
  • Length: 410 mm
  • Width: 410 mm
  • Height: 180 mm
  • Weight: 1,5 kg empty / 1,6 kg extra payload
  • Maximum speed: 20 m/s
  • Communication range: 18 km

According to EODH, the collaboration of the two companies seeks the integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems into ground platforms. As for the wheeled fleet of the Hellenic Army in particular, these can be integrated in existing and new platforms.

The technological advantage here lies in EODH’s fire control module, which is both digital and modular, elements that facilitate network-centric operations and easy integration.

EODH also showcases its latest developments in the field of protection of Heavy MBTs, Armored Fighting Vehicles and upgrade packages for 2nd generation MBTs and APCs.

Indicatively, the Greek company presents the heavy version of the advanced protection system “ASPIS Modular NG – MBT” (ASPIS – Advanced Shielding Platform Integrated System), designed as a complete hybrid solution that combines passive and active protection elements in the front compartment to counter modern threats such as tandem double warhead ATGMs and the new generation of long-rod APFSDS (Armour Piercing Fin-Stabilized, Discarding Sabot) kinetic energy rounds.

The design is such that it allows responding to multiple hits, while after attacking the armor, modules can be replaced in field conditions by the crew. The solution proposed by EODH can be applied as an upgrade of existing MBTs or integrated into new designs and meets the new challenge posed by suicide drones, loitering munitions and the new Fire & Forget anti-tank missiles that attack the MBT at the top of the turret.

It uses standalone millimeter-wave radar sensors positioned in such a way on the roof of the tower that, when activated, they detect incoming threats approaching the roof from high elevation angles and timely trigger directed explosions.

In addition, in collaboration with the Belgian-Spanish DUMA and the OEM KNDS, EODH has completed the design of a comprehensive upgrade package of the Leopard 1A5 Battle Tank to the Leopard 1HEL level and offers it for the modernization of the tanks of the Hellenic Army, which is the largest user of the type (500) worldwide.

The fully costed and technically completed proposal of EODH was recently presented to the Hellenic Army and positively considered, while other countries have already shown interest.

In addition, in collaboration with the Belgian-Spanish DUMA and the Slovenian VALHALLA, EODH presented to the Hellenic Army a complete package of gradual upgrading of the M-113 APC to the M-113HEL level, based on new technologies and tested parts. The package is offered for the modernization of the M-113 of the Hellenic Army.

EODH’s approach includes a modular upgrade of the power pack, the protection provided, the internal configuration of the driver’s position and the transport area of the infantry team as well as the possibility of adding various remotely-controlled turrets with multiple armament options.

Substantial consideration has been given to the age of the platform, the material of construction which naturally poses limitations, the need for full support capability for the next 20 years, while a special effort was made to keep the overall cost at a low level compared to the value of the M-113 platform.

As for the modernization of the M-113 APC of the Hellenic Army, EODH presents the Remotely Controlled Weapon Station MIDGARD 200 weighing 350 kg equipped with a 20mmx139mm Rheinmetall RH-20 gun, which can be sourced from existing stocks to significantly reduce the final cost.

Optionally, the MIDGARD 200 RWS can also incorporate an A/T missile launch system (EUROSPIKE or AKERON).

By providing innovative and tailored-made solutions for today’s specific needs, EODH has become one of the preferred partners of KMW in the LEO 2A7/8, Boxer 8×8 and PUMA production as well in other modern IFVs.
