Indra, a Spanish defence company, introduced its groundbreaking Maestre mission control system at the International Armoured Vehicles (IAV) Conference in the United Kingdom.

According to the company, the Maestre system, designed for the Spanish Ministry of Defence, serves as the “brain” of modern military vehicles, enhancing intelligence, survivability, and mission effectiveness.

The Maestre system marks a significant milestone as Europe’s first next-generation mission control system to enter serial production. It meets NATO’s stringent standards, offering an open, scalable, and interoperable solution for controlling a growing array of sensors and systems in modern armoured vehicles.

Specifically developed for the Spanish Army’s 8×8 Dragon VCR (Véhicule de Combat à Roues, French for Wheeled Combat Vehicle), the system is already integrated into its first production units. Key features include AI-driven threat identification, 360º vision, operations management, and advanced targeting and firing capabilities.

These technologies are meant to help people make better decisions, run operations more smoothly, and keep crews safe during missions by letting data flow easily through a combat cloud and coordinating actions across multiple operational domains.

At this point, Indra’s evolving role as an integrator, supported by its acquisition of Tess Defence and participation in EU-funded defence projects like Marte and Famous I & II, should be noted.
