The Cyprus Police Association issued a statement condemning “the unacceptable events that took place recently” in attacks to police officers and firefighters and the damage caused to civilian property.

The Association, after observing that once again the incidents are caused by young children’s delinquent behaviour, adds that the rise of juvenile delinquency is both sad and worrying.

He then called on the family, schools and society at large to assume their responsibilities by holding back and unburdening young people, noting that due to the special circumstances of the time, frustration, futility and exasperation are prevalent emotions, especially among young people, stating that in no case, however, is their delinquent behaviour allowed or justified.

Furthermore, the Association states that it will not tolerate the victimization and humiliation of Police Officers who have become a “scapegoat” in the context of their service.
