Three-day military exercises around Taiwan kick off today, Saturday (8/4) by the Chinese Armed Forces, a day after the island’s President Tsai Ing-wen returned from the US.

In particular, as stated in a relevant announcement released by China, war readiness patrols and exercises are to be conducted around the Taiwan Strait, as well as north, south, and east of the island as planned.

It is recalled that President Tsai met last Wednesday in Los Angeles with the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, while Beijing considers this move to be a challenge, as it treats Taiwan as a Chinese province, destined to reunite with the mainland.

China had conducted large-scale military exercises in August 2022, following Nancy Pelosi’s (McCarthy’s predecessor) visit to Taiwan.
