“Caucasus-2020” | Massive missile launches and air strikes at the Ashuluk training ground

The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation released a video from the “Caucasus-2020” (Кавказ-2020) exercise. During the exercise a salvo from S-400, Buk-M2 and Pantsir-S anti-aircraft stormed the Ashuluk training ground. Apart from the missile salvo Su-30SM fighters conducted bombardements and other drills.

During the“Caucasus-2020” command and control scenario, about 20 different aircraft were involved, both as individual fighters and in pairs, in order to overcome air defence systems and destroy radar stations, positions of anti-aircraft missile forces and aviation airfields.

During the “Caucasus-2020” exercise up to 250 tanks, 450 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) along with Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and up to 200 artillery systems and Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) will be involved in the practical actions of the troops (forces) at the training grounds.

Particular reference is made during the exercise to the Pantsir-S air defence missile system which destroyed high-speed target missiles.

“Caucasus-2020”  is taking place between September 21-26 with the participation of a total of about 80.000 people including formations and combat units, logistics and technical support, as well as air defence, navy and special forces units. In addition, up to 1000 foreign military personnel from Armenia, Belarus, China, Myanmar, Pakistan are invited to the drills to practise joint actions as part of groups of forces.

Moreover, representatives of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Indonesia, Iran and Sri-Lanka have been invited to participate as observers.
