Army personnel in quarantine areas – will perform tasks unarmed
National Guard personnel and soldiers are located since Friday morning 20/3 in quarantine areas where civilians returned from abroad as inmates, as provided by the decrees of the restrictive measures to tackle the coronavirus COVID-19.
According to information provided by our website, the decision was taken on Thursday 19/3 by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and assigned to the National Guard, to send troops to guard hotels and tourist accommodations that accommodate people in restriction.
Specifically, soldiers and executives from units of the Nicosia District have so far been sent to the Jubilee Hotel in Troodos, the Ekali Hotel in Kakopetria, the Forest Park Hotel in Platres, while additional men are expected to be sent to other hotels that will accept mandatory quarantine.
Soldiers perform ancillary tasks, in collaboration with private security men, at the entry and exit points of each space and will alternate at regular intervals.
It is noted that the presence of unarmed militias and officials at quarantine sites does not imply a state of emergency application.
