Two firefighting helicopters with their 18-member crew arrived in Cyprus from Jordan to support the Republic of Cyprus’ aerial firefighting.
The Cyprus Department of Forests is expected to procure 25 firefighting vehicles for forest protection purposes.
In particular, the process is ongoing, with the company HOUTRIS initially delivering the first 5 vehicles. The vehicles in question are based on the Mercedes Unimog chassis and are equipped with the necessary forest firefighting equipment.
The Unimog chassis was developed as a power package aiming to provide ease to operations in extreme off-road environments.

The Unimog family of vehicles is efficient against all challenges due to the four-wheel drive capability and torsional flexibility which constitute the advantage in uneven terrain. The Unimog has long been considered a very reliable vehicle for the optimal transport of crew, materials, and heavy equipment even to the most remote locations.
The vehicles have the ability to move up to approximately 90 km/h and pass through a water obstacle up to 1.20 meters deep.
