Rescue crews of the Fire Service have not given up their efforts to find missing persons in the rubble of the two trains after the fatal crash.
According to information, rescuers kept operating at the site throughout the night with the help of searchlights.
Emergency Disaster Response (EMAK) personnel, wearing special helmets, tried to reach as deep as they could into the rubble in the hope of finding passengers who may have been injured and may be alive.
Initially, searches were temporarily halted when darkness prevented rescue crews from working in Tempi. And while it was deemed imperative to interrupt the operations, the decision was changed and only the cranes stopped working which were removing the shapeless masses of steel from the crash site.
It is worth noting that there are still parts of the train that should be investigated at the scene, as there are carriages which have not been searched at all and where other people might possibly be found. The operators of the two cranes, who had been working for 18 consecutive hours, stopped to rest, while the TRAINOSE crane was operating at the same time.

43 dead, most aged 20-30
The death toll from the train accident in Tempi has reached 43, according to what the head of the Forensic Service of Larissa, Rubini Leontari, told ERT.
As she pointed out, the forensic examination of 43 bodies has been completed, which are in very bad condition. The majority are those of young children approximately 20-30 years old.
As reported by ERT, 53 people cannot reach their relatives and are being searched at the Larissa General Hospital, where they are giving a DNA sample. A very hard, painful, and long process as several days will be required for the identification to be completed. Several victims are dismembered, so the process itself is very difficult.
There are 4 medical examiners at the hospital, while according to information, the Head of the Medical Forensic Service of Athens is also present.
At the same time, six young people aged 20-25 are fighting for their lives in the intensive care units at Larissa Hospitals, while there are more than 50 injured people, who are hospitalized, receiving care, and seem to be doing well.

Hellenic Train on Tempi
The chairman of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Train, Dario Lo Bosco, pledged full support for the families of the victims and all the passengers of the fatal train in Tempi.
In his statement, he says that the investigation into the circumstances that caused the tragic incident is ongoing and that the company continues to work alongside the authorities and the rescuers at the scene as well as in all the hospitals that are treating the injured.
At the same time, tension prevailed outside the company’s offices in Petmeza Street, where student associations are protesting after the tragedy.
It should be emphasized that on January 18, 2017, the CEO of TAIPED and the CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group (FSI) signed the contract for the sale of 100% of TRAINOSE S.A. to FSI, against the amount of 45 million euros.
On September 14, 2017, the sale and transfer of 100% of the shares of TRAINOSE SA to FSI were completed and it joined the Italian group.
