Major General Tom Bewick was officially sworn in as the new Area Manager of the British Bases in Cyprus during a ceremony held at Flagstaff House in Episkopi on 11 April.

According to an official statement, Major General Bewick also assumes the position of Commander of British Forces Cyprus, bringing with him three decades of military experience, having joined the British Army in 1996.

During the ceremony, Major General Bewick expressed the pride and honour he feels in undertaking both roles. He stated that he is looking forward to all that Cyprus has to offer, both within and beyond the Sovereign Base Areas.

He further noted that it is a privilege to serve as Area Manager of the British Bases and that he feels extremely fortunate to take on these responsibilities.

Commenting on the broader bilateral relationship, he emphasised that the UK’s ties with the Republic of Cyprus have flourished in recent years — a relationship highlighted by the recent historic visit of the British Prime Minister. In this context, he added that he looks forward to contributing to the further strengthening of this strategic partnership.
