The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection is moving forward with the procurement of eight INTRUDER SE-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), following the signing of a contract on 31st March with the Greek company Terra Spatium SA.

The drones are intended for use by the Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK) of the Fire Brigade, significantly enhancing operational capabilities in search, rescue, and intervention missions conducted in adverse or hazardous environments.

The INTRUDER SE (Security Edition) is a product of GEP Unmanned Technologies,  a Greece-based company that developed the system in accordance with specific technical requirements provided by government agencies.

The drone is specially designed for deployment in enclosed or confined spaces, and is equipped with advanced features including infrared illumination with a range of 40 metres, a 170° wide-angle camera, and a microphone with double the sensitivity of human hearing. Its performance capabilities include 11 minutes of flight time and a range of up to 5 km.

Particular emphasis has been placed on the system’s durability: the INTRUDER SE remains operational after a 20-metre drop and can withstand temperatures of up to 95°C for at least three minutes, complying with stringent standards for sealing and mechanical robustness.

Although the tender process was completed in April 2024, the contract was only signed nearly a year later due to time-consuming administrative procedures. The system was uniquely selected following the failure of other manufacturers to meet the tender specifications.

Delivery of the systems to the Fire Brigade is expected to be completed within the next quarter.
