The memorial service of the fallen heroes of the Kelokedara community of Paphos was held in the presence of the Minister of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petridis, at the Church of Agios Georgios in Kelokedara.
The memorial service is the minimum tribute to the sacrifice of Costas Dimitris and Alexandros Chrysostomou who fell during World War II, Panagiotis Diomidou who was assassinated by the British colonialists during the EOKA national liberation struggle, of Pantelis and Antigoni Pourou who were savagely killed by armed Turkish Cypriots in 1964 and 1967 respectively and of Lieutenant General Andreas Arestis who fell while he was fighting in the summer of 1974 in the unequal struggle against the Turkish invaders.
The Minister of Defence, after referring to the memory of the mentioned heroes of the community and after praising the work of the local authorities for the preservation of their memory, added that we carry on our heavy heritage and an unpaid historical ‘check’: the demand for the liberation of the homeland and the restoration of the historical continuity of Hellenism across the island.
