Russian mercenary group Wagner sent at least 100 Ukrainian prisoners of war back to the Ukrainian Forces over Orthodox Easter, according to a video posted today by the group’s founder Evgeny Prigozhin.
Get everyone ready, give them food and water, and check on the wounded, Prigozhin appears to state in the video posted on Telegram by his press service.
A group of Ukrainian prisoners are then seen being told that they will be returning to the Ukrainian Forces in time for Easter. A Wagner’s armed mercenary tells the men before they board a truck that he hopes they will not fall into their hands again.
More than 100 men, some limping and others carried on stretchers by their comrades, are seen walking one behind the other on a muddy road, while a man holding a white flag stands on top of an armored vehicle.
President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Chief of Staff, Andriy Yermak, said 130 Ukrainian prisoners of war had been freed and repatriated in a “big Easter swap”.
