A Spitfire aircraft crashed yesterday during an RAF commemoration at an airfield in Lincolnshire, resulting in the death of the pilot.

The police and other emergency services rushed to the scene.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said that it had confirmed the death of the RAF pilot, while an investigation into the cause of the crash was underway.

The Supermarine Spitfire was used by the RAF during World War II to defend Britain from Luftwaffe air attacks.
