Turkey has begun withdrawing its troops from the “ninth” military observation point in the northwestern Syrian city of Morek as vehicles and trucks entered the base to transport troops to another location.

Turkish forces based in Morek, which is under the control of Assad’s forces, were also dismantling their military equipment in preparation for the withdrawal. In addition, citing security sources, Sputnik reported that Turkey had notified Russia of its decision to withdraw its forces from this military observation point to another in the Jabal Al-Zawiya area, a neighboring province of Idlib.

According to the report, “the encircled Turkish point began to dismantle its equipment, except for the observation towers.” The sources added that the Turkish troops are expected to withdraw from this point within the next 24 hours.

The Turkish army is still stationed at 50 other observation posts throughout northern Syria, which is a point of conflict with Damascus, since following the Sochi Agreement on September 17, 2018 in Ankara, 12 posts were assigned to the northwest of Aleppo provinces of Hama and Idlib.
