Twelve Turkish soldiers died after being exposed to methane fumes during an operation last Sunday (6 July 2025) in a cave in northern Iraq, the Turkish Ministry of Defence has announced.

Canadian authorities announced the day before yesterday, Thursday that they are banning 324 models of firearms, which they will collect to send to Ukraine.
Specifically, Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair said that Ottawa would work with arms distributors and stores that may have stocks of these models to get them out of Canada and give them to the Ukrainians for use in combat against Russia.
About 14,500 firearms already in circulation in Canada will be surrendered under an amnesty that runs until October 2025 and provides compensation to their owners.
The Canadian government’s announcement came a day before the 35th anniversary of the 1989 Montreal Polytechnique massacre that killed 14 women and deeply shocked the country.
Although mass shootings in Canada are less frequent than in the US, statistics show that the last decade has seen a steady increase in violent crimes committed with firearms.
Based on the most recent data, there were 1,400 shooting incidents in 2022, or 36.6 incidents per 100,000 residents.
In 2020, Canada banned 1,500 models of assault weapons after the deadliest attack in the country’s history, which claimed the lives of 22 people in New Scotland.
