Police officers arrested two persons, aged 34 and 18, for assisting third-country nationals to enter the Republic of Cyprus illegally, after a number of immigrants arrived in free Famagusta by speedboat.
As stated in the announcement of the Cyprus Police, the speedboat was approximately 5 meters long and was spotted off Cape Greco around 9:45 on Thursday morning. Members of the Port and Maritime Police located the boat and transported the immigrants (nine men, two women, four children) safely to the Ayia Napa Marina. Following their identification tests, they were transferred to the POURNARA accommodation center.
The investigation led to evidence against the 18-year-old, who was allegedly the captain of the boat, while the 34-year-old was found to be an illegal immigrant.
The two foreign suspects were arrested and taken into custody to facilitate investigations. The case is being investigated by the Famagusta CID.
