From Monday 1 to Friday 5 November 2021, the 3rd Tank Competition of the 4th Armoured Division (“THRACE”) was held, with the participation of Main Battle Tanks LEO2 (A4 και HEL) and a Platoon of the US Army Europe and Africa Forces Command (USAREUR-AF) with M1A1 ABRAMS tanks. The competition was held at the Shooting Range in Petrochori, Xanthi.
According to the announcement issued by the Hellenic Army General Staff, the Platoons were evaluated in operational procedures with measurable objective criteria, which focused on issues of small-scale tactics, shooting techniques, and tank technical issues.
The final classification of the Platoons was based on a combination of the time required by each crew to complete the assessed procedures, depending on the individual rating of skills and especially the shooting accuracy.
Throughout the competition, the participants’ effort, passion, and knowledge of the items assessed as well as their high level of training and operational readiness were particularly evident.
The final phase of the competition was attended by the Commander of the 1st Army/EU-OHQ “ACHILLEAS”, Lieutenant General Petros Demestihas, the Commander of the 4th Army Corps (“THRACE”), Lieutenant General Angelos Houdeloudis, the US Army Attaché, Colonel Nathan Mann as well as 14 observers from Bulgaria, France, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Cyprus.
