On Wednesday 25/11, “the French Senate calls on the French Government to recognize the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh and to use that recognition as a tool in the negotiations for lasting peace,” the document said.

On his part, the French Foreign Minister expressed to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, the view that “unilateral recognition of Karabakh will not do anyone any good” and will not serve to strengthen mediation efforts. He reminded that France, which is co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, supports the implementation of the ceasefire agreement reached on November 9. The experts explained that the resolution serves as a recommendation and is not binding.

According to the resolution, the French Senate calls for the immediate withdrawal of Azerbaijani forces from the territories occupied in the disputed territory since September 27 and to conduct an international investigation into war crimes and the use of prohibited weapons. In addition, senators urged the government to “draw conclusions about the role played by the Turkish authorities and to consider more decisive action with European partners.”
