September 10, 2005 | Remembrance Day of PC-9 Fallen Aviators

On this day back in 2005, Squadron Leader Kouloumos Feraios and Flight Lieutenant Fotis Konstantinou fell while on duty during “Dimitra” logistics exercise. The “Famagusta” PC-9 aircraft they were flying crashed in Kolossi village in Limassol.

Both the said aircraft and another of the same type were procured in 1989 from Switzerland for training purposes. A committee of experts from Cyprus and Greece was set up to determine the causes of the accident. The tragic irony of the incident lies in the fact that 29-year-old Fotis Konstantinou was going to celebrate his engagement the next day (Sunday 11/09/2005) in Kolossi, the place where the plane crashed.
