Nicosia heralds the withdrawal of “Yavouz” from EEZ, waiting for the developments

Nicosia considers the withdrawal of the Turkish drillship “Yavouz” from the Cypriot Exclusive Economic Zone as a positive development. However, it will wait for the developments in order to better assess the situation.
Asked to comment on the withdrawal of “Yavouz” from the Cypriot EEZ, in the wake of the recent European Council decisions, Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios told CNA that it is a positive development which contributes to the creation of a positive climate.
He said, however, that we still do not know if the withdrawal of the Turkish drillship is permanent. He also reminded that the Turkish research vessel “Barbaros” continues to be within the Cypriot EEZ while, as he said, the threats regarding the opening of the enclosed city of Varosia continue.
According to the Government Spokesman, Nicosia will wait for the developments in order to evaluate the situation, as “then we will be in a better position to evaluate the developments.”
